Best oil for chips?

lol - yeah, go easy with the oil. It really is one of those things where a little goes a long way. However much you think you should use, use 1/4 of that - lol.

Basically my process is:

- with the cap ON turn the bottle upside down, then flip it up right.

- take cap off. Whatever residual oil left in the cap is what I use. (There is very little oil in the cap, just enough to wet the surface of your finger wrapped around a t-shirt/rag)

- use a t-shirt/rag and wrap it around my pointer finger. (I prefer an old t-shirt)

- dip finger in bottle cap, then wipe the chip down.

- re-apply as necessary (and repeat step one as necessary).

This process works for me and applies the amount of oil that prefer (I HATE shiny chips - lol). You can go a little heavier/lighter depending on chip condition.

YMMV, many ways to skin this cat, this is just mine :cool:

This works too, especially if they are really dry! I’ve found the reds need more oil than others, so I’ll load a bit more then “buff” any excess.

I switched to the mineral oil gel recently and the results seem better for chips I've oiled.

Has anyone else used the gel?
Read a thread once regarding oiling China Clays like Milanos..... Not sure that does anything to those chips......
