Fellas, I’m not claiming any of this is true. it’s just a backstory I heard nine years ago. I to have a hard time believing that only one or two Chips survived out of hundreds or thousands made. Hoards are found every day :)
We know these aren’t your claims. But why don’t you just let us know when you’re gonna let that rack out???

I know Dave! I'll find the rack someday and I'll let you know the story of my crazy adventure ;)

To me it's a bit iffy of a story too because why would a casino order two similar colored chips to be in use a the same time, even if one had spots and the other didn't. A casino shouldn't or wouldn't do that to ensure that the dealers don't get chips mixed up etc.

I'm on the same mindset as @The Chip Spa and believe there is more than "a handful" out there, just with everything. It'll just take time for the rack to come out of the darkness.

At any rate, I’m not discounting what you heard Dave it’s just that over the years. I’ve heard all kinds of tales about chips and their provenance. And it makes it difficult to sift through the tales that have been told some of which are true, some of which have been made up, intentionally to affect the value of the chip or chips It also doesn’t only apply to old or historical chips. There’s plenty of tails made up about chips to try and increase the perception of their value. It is an odd game that some play in this hobby and with the historical chips it just seems a bit adverse to operate with stories like that to affect value. if you know what I mean, it removes the actual history of the chip, which really is the most important thing. Anyway, I guess my point is without actually having a documented story that could be confirmed. I take it all with a grain of salt.

Looking at the orange $5 issued same era I’m not sure about that tale. They would have done some research before racking out a whole casino. As for only 2 we’re missing, well hoard alert as @Steve Cutler has had 4 and @Thunder Snow has seen multiple so I still believe there’s a box around the corner somewhere. It’s a good story to keep value up tho! You only need to sell a chip every few years.

I wouldn’t have done this but I don’t see confusion. Orange and blue.
But to rack a whole casino out seems like a mistake they wouldn’t have made without dealer input. But who knows

Good tale to keep value up tho!! There's boxes!!!!!

I believe the story was… The chips were put out on the tables, and were immediately being confused with $5 chips by the dealers. They were pulled within an hour or so. The boxes were destroyed but a few managed to walk out as souvenirs.
That would be documented I would think.... Where'd you hear that?
